Wong and Oluo racism

Ali Wong and Oluo both discuss race in a very formative manner, although Wong is trying to be more humorous and Oluo is trying to be a bit more serious. What stood out to me was when Ali Wong was talking about marriage in terms of being with someone that is the same race. When people that are the same race are together, as Wong said, it seems easier to be racist when you are with another person because you don’t have to say anything to anyone about it. She talked about how her and her husband make fun of Korean people because they are a completely different group of people. However, she differs from Oluo because she is trying to convey that racism has affected her so much that her section about checking your privilege is so important in terms of what rights black people should have. Ali’s goal is to inform about racism, but to make people laugh and offer a funny perspective about it and Oluo’s goal is to also inform about race, but in a more heartfelt way. In terms of what types of audiences they are speaking to, both have the same audiences they are targeting, which are people that have to deal with racism on a daily basis.
